If You Are Lucky to Live a Long Life, You Will Develop Cataracts

May 20, 2022 by Karla A in Independent Living

The National Institute of Health (NIH) reports if you are lucky enough to live a long life, along the way, you will develop cataracts. While it may not get to the point of requiring surgery, they say everyone eventually has them. However, while cataracts are the most common age-related eye condition, they are also the leading cause of preventable blindness.

So how do you know you have cataracts or if it is time for surgery? Ophthalmologists explain the most accurate way to keep track of your eye health is to get regular eye exams; but there are some signs you can look out for on your own. One of the top changes you may notice is more difficulty driving at night. Cataracts make it much harder to see in the dark. Reading may also become difficult as you find yourself needing brighter and brighter light in order to focus on the page.

Other symptoms can include seeing everything through a slightly tinted yellow or brown hue; or experiencing halos around light sources such as headlights or streetlights. Some cataracts can cause double vision, and between seeing halos and double vision make night driving especially dangerous. Experts say if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, please make an appointment to have your eyes checked.

If surgery is recommended, remember every year more than 2 million cataract surgeries are performed in the United States. It is important to follow your doctor’s advice for a speedy recovery. Your eyes will be frail for several weeks afterward but most people have little to no pain and experience good vision almost immediately.

The Best Foods for Satisfying, Healthy Snacks

May 06, 2022 by Karla A in Senior Living

The goal of a snack should be to satisfy your hunger as well as be a balanced addition to your daily nutritional intake. Dietician Lisa Jones says satisfying snacks can be crunchy, creamy, savory or salty and good choices include things like eggs, tofu, whole grains, and fruits and vegetables.

As a guideline, an adult’s snack should contain approximately 150 to 250 calories. Experts advise diabetics to stick to protein-rich choices and to watch the amount of carbohydrates a food contains as carbs can elevate blood sugar. If you are eating a pre-packaged food, check to see what constitutes a serving and the number of calories.

Remember healthy snacks can be tasty such as avocado on whole grain toast. For a fiber-rich snack, how to make chia pudding? The recipe is simple and all you need to do is add 3 tablespoons of chia seeds to a 6 oz. glass of seed-based milk. Add ½ cup fruit and refrigerate for a couple of hours. To get 80% of the daily folate and 50% of the manganese requirement, how about eating a cup of shelled edamame?

Other quick snacks include a handful of nuts and a piece of fruit, or a bowl of popcorn topped with a small amount of olive oil rather than butter. Cut-up veggies eaten plain or dipped in peanut butter or humus is another satisfying, healthy snack. Greek yogurt is loaded with calcium, probiotics and protein and can be added to fruit, a handful of nuts or even to tuna.

Aging is Inevitable – Here’s Some Tips to Help Do it Better

May 04, 2022 by Karla A in Independent Living

If we are lucky, we are all going to get a lot older, but experts say with a few common sense adjustments, we can live healthier, more productive lives than our grandparents or even parents. Moreover it is worthwhile to plan for a long life as mortality rates have risen from just an average age of 47 for men and women in 1900 to older adults routinely reaching their eighties, nineties and upward.

In fact recent studies report it is possible to grow older without a significant decline in health. Linda Fried, dean of the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and director of the Robert Butler Columbia Aging Center, says, “The idea that living longer necessarily means enduring significant declines in health has changed in the last two decades.” She adds, “It’s possible to increase your health span as long as your life span. Some decline in health and function is inevitable. But the image that older life is about decrepitude turns out not to be right.”

Spending decades working in the field of gerontology, Harry "Rick" Moody reminds older adults that even if they are living with health challenges, they should not lose sight of the opportunity for living a meaningful and positive life. He says at 76 his hearing is bad but he compensates by wearing a hearing aid. His advice is "If you compensate, you’ll age successfully. If you don’t, you won’t age successfully.”

Strategies for healthy aging include not limiting yourself by saying you are too old, to keep learning, keep exercising and to eat a healthy diet. Staying close to family and friends, getting enough sleep and using adaptive skills to compensate for things like short-term memory loss and a general slow-down of cognitive and physical abilities are also part of the process.

At MorningStar at Golden Ridge, our goal is to provide seniors the physical, intellectual, spiritual and social connections to lead productive and engaged lives. Along with independent living and assisted living, we also provide compassionate, holistic memory care to those suffering from Alzheimer’s and other dementia related diseases. Please visit our website to learn more.

Our Team Grew Up Loving & Honoring Seniors

March 25, 2022 by Karla A in Independent Living

Our MorningStar at Golden Ridge leadership team learned from a young age not only the joy that comes from loving a senior but what great teachers they are to us. We feel blessed to have such fine individuals leading our community and knowing we are in good hands.

Beginning with our Executive Director, Kerri Felix, who has adeptly, and compassionately led our team over the past three years, explains the first senior she loved was her “Grampy.” She says she didn’t ever think of him as a senior but just knew he was her favorite guy who happened to have white hair. From her earliest relationships to today, Kerri has seen the ways seniors teach us to be humble and to be respectful of time as it is a precious commodity not to be wasted. Adding, “It is an absolute privilege to have the opportunity to serve them every day; and to serve alongside team members who daily exhibit the core value of kindness.”

Nicole Baker serves as our Wellness Director. She explains the first senior she loved was Grandpa Jim, or as others knew him, “Big Jim;” the glue of the family who was funny, kind and made them laugh with silly jokes. Nicole says, “Seniors have taught me to live life to the fullest, to stop and enjoy the little sthings. They show me that family is the most important thing you have in life, and how precious this life is.”

Rounding out our leadership team is Julie Larsson, the Director of Community Relations. Her grandfather Leo made her feel special and told her one day she would be an artist. She says, “I feel called to serve seniors because it is very satisfying to know I can play a part in improving their quality of life. My elders teach me to be grateful for things we often take for granted, like health and family.” Julie loves working for MorningStar because the company’s mission and core values echo her own.

Studies Show Vegetables & Fruits May Help in the Fight against Forgetfulness

March 23, 2022 by Karla A in Senior Living

New research shows flavonoids, the chemicals that provide plant foods their bright colors, may help in the fight against forgetfulness and mild confusion many seniors experience. The evidence comes from two long-term continuing health studies from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Participants were periodically surveyed regarding their diet and state of their health including memory problems over a 20 year period. Data was extracted from over 100,000 men and women with an average age of 73.

The study’s lead author, Dr. Deborah Blacker, a professor of epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, said they focused on participants’ consummation of two dozen common types of flavonoids. These included carrots (high in beta carotene), strawberries (containing flavone) and apples (containing anthocyanin). Results suggest those who answered “yes” to having memory problems also reported eating a lower amount of flavonoid-enriched foods.

Researchers found a significant difference between the bottom one-fifth of participants who reported the lowest intake of flavonoids compared to the upper one-fifth who were 19 percent less likely to report forgetfulness or confusion. Additionally the study reported “higher intakes of Brussel sprouts, strawberries, winter squash and raw spinach were most highly associated with better scores on the test of subjective cognitive decline.” Dr. Thomas M. Holland, a researcher at the Rush Institute for Healthy Aging who was not involved in the study, said “There’s some really good data here with 20 years of follow-up.”

Have Back Pain? You are Not Alone

August 19, 2021 by Karla A

It is estimated that up to 90 percent of Americans experience one or more episodes of back pain each year. According to Dr. Richard S. Lee, a spine surgeon with Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Southern California, "As a medical symptom, back pain is second only to the common cold in this country."

Even though it is common, doctors have some suggestions to help ease the pain and perhaps even prevent or lessen reoccurring episodes. For many types of back pain, a good start is to use some sort of anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Dr. Whitney Luke, vice chair of clinical operations in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, cautions some cases of back pain may require something stronger like an oral steroid.

Doctors also say exercise is a good way to relieve pain. In fact for many, chronic back pain should be treated by daily exercise focusing on building a strong core. The best exercises include aquatic therapy, Pilates and yoga, which also help strengthen your endurance and improve overall health. Other suggestions include focused breathing techniques and mediation.

Heat and ice can help loosen up back muscles and bring down any swelling. Additionally your doctor may advice you to lose any excess weight, and if you smoke, to quit. If you experience severe pain that does not improve or have leg numbness or weakness, difficulty walking, difficulty urinating or having bowel movements, fever and/or chills, experts say to seek immediate medical attention.*

The senior living community of MorningStar at Golden Ridge offers 38 Casitas (quadraplexes with attached garages) for independent living and another 65 private suites for assisted living. Life Lessons Younger People can Learn from the Elderly

July 25, 2021 by Karla A

As someone said, “We should listen to our elders, not because they are always right, but because they have more experience in being wrong.” Most elderly people have gained insights into life and have an understanding of what is truly important. They bring a sense of gratitude from childhoods or of young adults living through hardships such as the Great Depression and World War II. Many grew up without much and were grateful for gifts like new shoes, coats or hand knit sweaters and scarves.

In an article in Time magazine, a group of seniors were asked for any advice they would give to younger people. Many agreed it was important to follow your dreams and to remember it is easy to miss opportunities that come our way. One senior counseled, "Do not hesitate to switch interests, majors or fields of concentration," adding, "Find your preference or your passion, then focus on it to your heart's content."

Another senior advises to not exclusively think about your own needs and those of your family and friends; but to remember charity, faith and spirituality enrich our lives. He explains, “Faith or the belief in a power greater than oneself seems to be important for humans, for spirituality is a part of every culture. If this spirituality fosters concern for the welfare of others, it is of great benefit to society.”

Many elderly adults stress the importance of being flexible and open to change; and some say it is as important to tend to our own happiness as it is to spread happiness to others. Lots of seniors said volunteering is a good way to give back, and in many cases, meet new friends. Finally they stress the importance of continuing to grow and learn no matter how old you are.

The MorningStar at Golden Ridge senior living community has a foundation is built on honoring God, valuing seniors and hiring staff with a felt calling to serve. Our loving home offers exceptional architecture, resort-style amenities, and hospitality and care services. True Happiness Comes from Serving Others

July 22, 2021 by Karla A

Regardless of our age or station in life, helping others is one of the keys to true happiness. Saint Francis of Assisi is quoted as saying, “For it is in giving that we receive.” Leo Tolstoy wrote the “The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity,” and Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.”

Researchers have used fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) technology to show how “giving activates the same parts of the brain that are stimulated by food and sex.” Thus helping others may be the secret to a life that is not only happier but also healthier, wealthier, more productive, and meaningful. Experts recommend giving to causes you are passionate about and remember often time is more appreciated than money.

At MorningStar at Golden Ridge we are a community founded on principles of serving others and along with our dedicated team, our remarkable residents are also ready to help. Our vision to love and honor others stretches beyond MorningStar’s senior living communities—and into the world. Starting at the top as Ken Jaeger, our Founder/CEO takes the lead. Ken does not mince words when it comes to inspiring others to live a life of selfless giving. Whether speaking to his MorningStar team or to any audience, his words are often these: “Don’t wait to serve. Serve now. Today. Get involved somewhere. It will make you a better person. And don’t wait to give until the day you make a million dollars. Don’t wait until your children are grown. Don’t wait until you retire. Give now, give generously. And just see what happens. For you cannot out-give God.”

MorningStar’s volunteer efforts include local community nonprofits; organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association and helping people in need across the globe. Whenever possible, MorningStar residents are invited to join us in these acts of service by the giving of their time and talent as well.

At MorningStar at Golden Ridge, our dedicated team knows seniors deserve to be treated with the utmost dignity and respect. Please visit our website to learn more about trusted independent living, assisted living and memory care in Peoria. Be sure to ask about our Move-In Specials.

Eye Exercises Can Help Strengthen Aging Eyes & Reduce Irritation

April 25, 2021 by Karla A

It is important to not only exercise our bodies and our mind for optimal health, but our eyes as well. Experts say daily eye exercises can help to maintain and sharpen our ability to focus, reduce eye strain and irritation, and slow down deterioration that occurs as we age.

Along with eye exercises, it is important for seniors to get regular eye exams to check for changes in vision including glaucoma, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). A nutritional diet is another part of promoting good eye health as is exercise. Moving your body keeps the blood flowing to every part of the body.

Eye exercises are simple to do and can be done in a few minutes. One of the easiest is to blink. Blinking helps lubricate and strengthen the eyes. Start by relaxing the eye and then blinking lightly and rapidly 15 times. If you experience eye strain from too much computer time, squeeze your eyes gently shut, open, and relax. Do ten times in a row. Next, try flexing the eyes by looking up without moving your head, then look down. Now look to the left and then the right also keeping the head still. Repeat 10 times.

Palming is a yoga technique used to relieve eye strain. Sit in a relaxed position with eyes closed; place the palms of your hands over your eyes, the base of your palms on your cheeks, and fingers on your forehead. Be sure not to use too much pressure, you should be able be blink your eyes. Hold in this position for two minutes.

Another exercise involves refocusing on object both near and far. Start by focusing on an object near at hand. Once you have completely focused, look at something 30 feet away and focus on that object. Next you can try the same thing with something far in the distance.

MorningStar Senior Living at Golden Ridge offers seniors a lifestyle of comfort, wellness and community with an array of amenities and services. Our senior living options include assisted living and independent living along with memory care. We are dedicated to creating a true home for carefree retirement years. The Link Between Hearing Loss and Dementia

March 05, 2021 by Karla A

John Hopkins published a study that found mild hearing loss doubles the risk for dementia. The nearly 12 year study included 639 adults and further reported that a moderate hearing loss tripled the risk, and people with severe hearing loss were five times more likely to develop dementia.

The study was headed by Frank Lin, M.D., Ph.D., who explains that the problem may come from the fact that many people who experience hearing loss deliberately avoid being around others and socially isolate. A hearing loss makes it difficult for the person to follow conversations and they don’t like to put themselves in social situations that make them uncomfortable. Another problem is it actually makes our brain’s work harder as it mutes some of the subtle sounds our ears intuitively use to help us safely walk.

Dr. Lin says his group has another study planned to determine if hearing aids help to mitigate some of the negative effects of hearing loss including the higher risk of dementia. He does add that hearing aids certainly help individuals get back into the conversation and to enjoy being around their friends and family again.

Statistics show that while almost 27 million Americans age 50 years and older have some level of hearing loss, only one in seven people use a hearing aid. If you think your hearing may be diminished, you should make an appointment with an audiologist for a complete hearing check. Doctors also encourage individuals not to fall prey to the many myths involving hearing aids including worrying about looking older by wearing one as today’s hearing aids are less conspicuous and smaller than ever. And yes, doctors do say there is a breaking in period for a hearing aid but most doctors and hearing centers offer a trial period to make sure it is the right fit for you.

Are You Ready for Retirement?

January 22, 2021 by Karla A

If you are thinking about retirement, you may be wondering if you are ready. One concern many older Americans have regarding their retirement is whether they have saved enough money. On this score, experts state you don’t need enormous wealth to be happy in retirement, but just need enough.

So how much is enough for you to live well in retirement? Again financial planners say you do not have to match your annual income to be comfortable as you will not be paying for commuting costs or paying into Social Security and Medicare. You will also not be putting money into a retirement account. One guideline suggests you may want about 80 to 85 percent of your preretirement income, and perhaps less is you have a paid-off mortgage.

Another thing to remember is your time is worth a lot and retirement does not have to be about expensive vacations and entertainment but rather giving you the time for the little things in life. Enjoying dinner with our family, spending time with friends, or playing with our grandkids have all become more precious during the pandemic and most of us cannot wait until we have the opportunity to do these things again.

Making your health a priority is also important and while we cannot control our genetics, we can do some things to help improve our health including getting more exercise and enough sleep. Keep in mind that doctors say any exercise is better than none. In fact, a large survey of 334,000 Europeans found that “the biggest beneficiaries of exercise — those who went from inactive to moderately inactive — had a 16 to 30 percent drop in premature death risk.”

Other tips to enjoy your retirement years more fully is to have a purpose. Maybe you always wanted to donate time to a charity, work in local youth programs, or organize fund-raising activities for your church; retirement is a great time to start. Moreover by this summer, hopefully most of us will be vaccinated and leading more normal lives so be ready to get out and really start living yours!

At the MorningStar at Golden Ridge senior living community, we are proud to offer the area’s finest independent living, assisted living and memory care. The Role of Caregiver can be Stressful!

December 22, 2020 by Karla A

If you are the main caregiver for an elderly family member who requires help with the activities of daily living (ADLs), it may be the job is becoming too much for you. The Nov/Dec issue of Today’s Geriatric Medicine cites a study by the “National Alliance for Caregiving and Caring Across Generations,” which states that more than 11 million American adults are considered sandwich generation caregivers and bear the responsibility of simultaneously caring for their children as well as an aging family member. In total it is believed there are approximately 40.4 million unpaid caregivers for adults 65 years and older in the United States consisting of adult children, spouses, relatives or friends. In addition 61 percent of those caregivers are employed, including nearly half who work full-time and juggle their own family responsibilities.

While for most, caregiving is a labor of love but there is no denying it can be challenging. Whether you are an adult child with your own children, a spouse, or another relative, you may feel it is time ask for help. This decision may lead you to an assisted living community where mom or dad will receive all the care they need and you can go back to being their loving child. If you are a spouse who has been responsible for the caregiving duties, senior living communities such as MorningStar at Golden Ridge warmly welcome married couples to live together in their own suite, surrounded by their own treasured possessions.

We are pleased to give residents and their families peace of mind knowing that trained care managers are there to help navigate changes in health, and that transportation is available for doctor visits and other errands. It is also a relief to know mom or dad will have nutritional, daily meals prepared by our own Executive Chef, built-in companionship, and the comfort of knowing someone is always around to lend a hand if needed.

The MorningStar at Golden Ridge senior living community has a team of caregivers who feel it is a privilege to serve seniors and understand that residents deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Our community has 38 Casitas for independent living, 65 suites for assisted living, and 35 secure suites devoted to the individualized care of residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

As We Age, Socializing Opportunities Often Start to Diminish

December 05, 2020 by Karla A

As we age, socializing opportunities often start to diminish. Many seniors no longer go into an office daily; while others start to feel uncomfortable driving, have mobility issues or physical ailments, have experienced the recent loss of a spouse, or other factors that limits their ability to socialize. Now add in the fact that many seniors are refraining from joining family activities due to COVID-19, it can be a lonely time for many older adults.

Lack of socialization in the elderly has many downsides. Seniors who say they feel isolated and lonely have been found to have higher rates of depression, more anxiety, lower sense of self-esteem, and shorter life-spans. Conversely older adults with a more robust social network appear to benefit from better physical, mental and cognitive health. Studies show socially active seniors handle stress better, which in turn leads to better cardio health and improved immune systems.

While many senior communities may not be as open to the public as they were before the start of the pandemic; nonetheless community living provides peace of mind to residents knowing someone is always around. At the MorningStar Senior Living communities, we adhere to the various states’ guidelines in which a particular community is located to keep residents as safe as possible.

At MorningStar of Beaverton, we proudly announce we are “OPEN to LIFE WHAT EVER the SEASON” and that “COVID-19 HAD NO POWER TO CANCEL LOVE!” And we practice that philosophy every day. We continue to offer opportunities to socialize and connect with others while still remaining safe. With 66 bright suites for assisted living, MorningStar apartments are true homes that offer residents privacy, comfort, and ease. Please see our website to discover why MorningStar of Beaverton is a step above an ordinary assisted living facility.

Now is the Time to Try Out those Hobbies You Have Wanted to Do!

October 25, 2020 by Karla A

As many of us are spending more time at home, we are also searching for new, interesting things to do. Along with the satisfaction and fun we derive from learning and improving our skills in any number of activities, did you know it may also benefit our health? In fact studies have shown that cultivating hobbies isn’t just a relaxing break from day-to-day responsibilities and chores, but can provide both mental and physical health benefits. One such study found participants engaging in leisure activities had “immediate stress relief, as well as lower stress and depression in the longer term.” Other studies found participants who enjoyed leisure activities experienced lower blood pressure and had a more positive picture of their overall health.

One thoroughly enjoyable activity is to read. Reading not only opens doors to new places and new ideas but introduces us to people that are not the same as us. If you need ideas on what to read, just google best books of 2020 and you will have a whole range of ideas. Moreover if you have a tablet or e-reader such as a Kindle or Nook, you can easily download books from a number of book sellers. If you would like to get more social, start a virtual book club or join one already online.

One interesting website that may help you become a lifelong learning and expand your horizons is Great Courses Plus. By partnering with renowned organizations such as the National Geographic, History®, Smithsonian, Mayo Clinic, and The Culinary Institute of America, they are able to offer a course on most any topic you can think of. Other fun activities may include joining an online choral group if you love to sing or to take look at the many YouTube exercise videos to keep you moving.

Now is also a good time to start an indoor garden, learn to make jewelry or learn calligraphy and personalize birthday and holiday cards. If you have always wanted to be a better cook, arrange flowers, or finally start that scrapbook, what’s stopping you? This summer I spent a couple of days watching YouTube videos with my grandson as we tried to learn new card tricks. The list goes on and on so why not get started improving your skills, broadening your interest, and having fun?

How Pets Improve Our Lives

October 10, 2020 by Karla A

Research has shown that having a pet can improve our mental health, cardiovascular health and PTSD symptoms. In fact, even if you do not own a pet but just spend some time interacting with animals, it can lift your spirits and decrease stress. Also during times of isolation and uncertainty, many of us feel our pets are more important than ever.

The great thing about pets is they offer unconditional love and loyal companionship. Caring for an animal can be a welcome distraction from life’s other worries and can provide more meaning to our life. Moreover, how can you feel upset or angry when sitting with a cat on your lap and hearing the relaxing, melodious sound of their purr? Research has shown that an act as simple as petting a dog or cat has been shown to reduce stress and help regulate our mood.

Many people believe their pet has the ability to pick up on their emotions and know when they are sad or stressed and need a little “extra love.” In addition, dogs need exercise so many dog owners are motivated to get outside and exercise, which is always a good thing. However, experts caution that before you rush out and adopt an animal that you think about how much time you have to care for one, and do you have the money to pay for the extra expenses. Also, if your choice is a dog, are you physically able to provide the animal with the daily exercise they need?

Tips to Speed Your Recovery after Surgery

September 30, 2020 by Karla A

Like most everything else, standard procedures and guidelines for care before and after surgery have evolved in an effort to promote and speed recovery. Dr. Charla Fischer, an orthopedic surgeon at NYU Langone Spine Center in New York City, suggests you think of surgery as you would a marathon or race. She says, "The surgery itself is just the first part of the race – there is also the recovery after.” So what you do before a planned surgical procedure and what you do after can all be part of a better outcome and even includes diet and exercise.

One example is a change in the way a person is treated after surgery in many hospitals. Now rather than limiting patients to ice chips and intravenous fluids, they are served a meal. In addition people are encouraged to get up and move as soon as the night right after surgery, which appears to hasten recover. However doctors warn that people should be screened before surgery for conditions such as malnutrition, anemia, diabetes and pain, and if it is found they have any, it should be addressed.

Also find out what exercises would be helpful and doable before and after surgery, and what is not recommended. Ask about your hospital’s rehabilitation program or the availability of a physical therapist. After surgery, stay hydrated and be sure to eat a protein-rich diet and lots of fresh vegetables. Another thing that will aid your postoperative recovery and overall health is to stop smoking.

As a bigger percentage of surgeries are in people over 65 years of age, your doctor will let you know the type of screening that is required before surgery. It will most likely include things such as cardiac health, functional status and history of falls, frailty and other factors.

The Benefits of Long-term Care Insurance

September 05, 2020 by Karla A

As we grow older, we start to think more and more about “what if” this or that happens. Many of us worry about getting a disease or disability that could make it difficult for us to care for ourselves, and many worry about having the financial means to get the long-term care we may eventually need.

Financial advisors say one way to give ourselves peace of mind is to purchase Long-term Care insurance (LTC). While a LTC policy can be expensive, experts say you need to remember that trying to pay for long-term care can jeopardize your financial wellbeing as well as that of your spouse, children and even grandchildren. Many of us have worked our entire lives to provide our families with financial security and would hate the thought of them shouldering the economic and personal responsibilities related to our long-term care.

The AARP says everyone should have a plan for long-term care, and as we are living longer than ever before, at some point we may need help with our day-to-day care. As many LTC insurance policies cover some of the expenses your regular health insurance does not, it is easier to “maintain your lifestyle if age, injury, illness, or a cognitive impairment makes it challenging for you to take care of yourself.” Buying a LTC policy is also a good idea for those who do not have family members or others to care for them in the event of changing circumstances.

If you are looking for the finest memory care or assisted living Beaverton Oregon offers, we encourage you to consider MorningStar of Beaverton. While we work hard to make our community affordable, we also help potential residents to find creative ways to help pay for senior living. Long-term care insurance can help pay for senior care and protect personal assets by covering a variety of services in senior living communities. Please visit our website for more information.
