Senior Living Communities Offer a Broad Range of Services and Amenities

October 16, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

As it turns out, many seniors are quite happy with their decision to move into an independent or assisted living community.  In part, that may be since many of today’s senior communities are loaded with numerous amenities and activities.   As a resident, you are provided with a lifestyle of comfort and community as well as a sense of safety and security.  Here are some of the many benefits:

  • When seniors move out of their family home into a senior community, they find themselves freed from lots of responsibilities.  Owning a home requires routine care and maintenance such as yard work and other housekeeping chores.

  • Seniors often live alone and experience feelings of loneliness and isolation.  Also, as people age, many are reluctant to drive, which means they end up spending a lot of time at home by themselves.  This is something that is not a problem in senior communities.  While activities are optional, there is generally something of interest for everyone.

  • For seniors who do not drive anymore, senior communities usually offer some form of transportation.  In addition, many routinely schedule day trips to activities such as plays, museums, shopping or other events.

  • We also know that many seniors who live alone do not eat well.  In some cases, grocery shopping and preparing food has become difficult.  Many senior communities make healthy, nutritious food a priority and offer choices such as low sodium, no sugar added etc.

  • As an assisted living resident, you will receive help with activities of daily living (ADLs) to provide a better quality of life. Around-the-clock care managers, access to licensed nurses and medication management are just a few of the many services senior communities provide to ensure your safety and to meet your needs.

  • Finally, we cannot forget the importance of socializing and making new friends at any age.  Even for individuals who value their privacy, there is still the comfort of having other people around.  If the event of a fall or medical emergency, help is always close at hand.

At MorningStar at Golden Ridge in Peoria, AZ, we provide all this and more. Our broad range of services and amenities include all-day dining, life enrichment rooms, theater, fitness centers, library, swimming pool, wellness programs and activities to promote a healthy, engaged lifestyle for residents. It’s Important for Seniors to Keep Exercising

October 13, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

Not only is physical exercise good for our heart and cognitive health but it can help older adults stay steady on their feet. Studies show regular physical activity can reduce the risk of falls in older adults at a high risk of falling by nearly one third.

Experts explain certain kinds of exercise helps increase muscle mass and bone strength as well as improve balance and coordination, fight off osteoporosis, and reduce the risk for fractures and broken bones. Some of the best exercises are known as weight-bearing, which require a person to carry their weight and work against gravity. Examples include walking, dancing, hiking, climbing stairs, jogging and playing tennis or basketball. Doctors say if you can manage it, increasing your pace during aerobics, jogging and power walking make the exercises even more effective at strengthening bone density.

Resistance exercises also work against gravity and help build muscle mass and improve bone strength. Strength training with weights, weight machines or resistance bands are all examples of exercises that rely on muscle contractions that tug on bones to stimulate them to bulk up. Along the same line, impact exercises such as jumping jacks and walking or running uphill have been shown to improve bone density fairly quickly.

Healthcare providers say to be sure to check with your doctor before starting any new exercise program, especially if you’re taking medications that slow your coordination or throw off your balance. According to the Surgeon General, your optimal goal should be at least 30 minutes of physical activity on most days, preferably daily.

For those of you looking for luxury independent living or assisted living, we encourage you to consider MorningStar at Golden Ridge. We make it easy to exercise with a fitness center and saline swimming pool along with a variety of wellness programs to keep you moving. Having Difficulty With Daily Activities Effects Quality of Life

October 09, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

Most seniors wish to maintain their independence as long as possible by living on their own; and that is why many who encounter problems in their day-to-day lives are reluctant to tell their families. The problem with this is as a senior starts to have more difficulty caring for themselves, their quality of life can be greatly diminished.

Even if mom or dad seem to be doing well on their own, experts say a rapid decline in their health from an accident or illness can catch families by surprise and make living on their own dangerous. In addition, many health conditions affect musculoskeletal, neurological, circulatory or sensory systems and impact a senior’s ability to perform the activities of daily living (ADLs). Experts say other factors indicating a need for more help include social isolation, medication side effects and the physical characteristics of the person’s home such as a second-floor bedroom. If after implementing a series of home modifications is not adequate, more measures need to be taken to keep your loved one safe.

Experts explain unmet ADLs can lead to serious health problems including “malnutrition, poor personal hygiene, isolation, illnesses like urinary tract infections (UTIs) and falls. In fact, studies show ADL disabilities are associated with an increased risk for mortality; and taking care of daily needs can help prevent new and worsening health issues.” They also report if family members notice a decline in a loved one’s overall health, taking steps now can improve their safety and forestall further problems. One solution is to make a move to an assisted living community, where a person can live as safely and as independently as possible. To ensure needs are met, homes use the ADLs as a measure of a person’s functional performance.

At MorningStar at Golden Ridge, we provide carefree retirement years. From healthy daily meals to wellness programs and activities, we have a whole range of services and amenities to ensure residents comfort and wellbeing.  Our care services include care managers, access to licensed nurses, and medication care managers.  Please contact us or visit our website for more information about luxury assisted living in Peoria, AZ.

Medicare and Assisted Living

September 25, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

Most seniors will require some type of long-term assisted living as they get older. Assisted living benefits seniors who need extra help completing tasks, chores, and errands for themselves. Having a full-time caretaker may only be possible for some. This is why assisted living communities provide 24/7 care for seniors needing medication management, health monitoring, and daily check-ins.

The downside is that Medicare does not usually cover assisted living communities and their costs. However, other financial options may benefit families looking for assisted living options.

Long Term Care Insurance

Long-term care insurance helps pay for senior care and protect personal assets by covering expenses up to the amounts outlined in the policy. Long term care insurance pays for various services in senior communities and can offer care options that may not be covered through Medicare and Medicaid. A long term care insurance policy also helps with the costs of care for seniors with a chronic medical condition or disability.

Selling a Home

The equity built up in a private home is typically a retiree’s most significant asset, making the proceeds from selling extremely helpful when transitioning to a senior community. However, selling a home quickly can be challenging and time-consuming. This is especially true when adult children are not living nearby to assist.

Financial Services

There are still options for senior care without using Medicare. Financial resources are available beyond retirement savings and investments when paying for assisted living. To help you explore options, MorningStar has partnered with Elderlife Financial Services, whose agents offer education on the financial resources potentially open to you in paying for independent living, assisted living, or memory care.

A Key Communication Strategy for Dementia

September 22, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

A dementia diagnosis for a senior loved one or parent is disheartening. You will be on a journey of new battles and challenges, but hopefully, you will still find ways to appreciate what is still possible while on this new path with your loved one.

A challenging aspect of dementia and Alzheimer’s is adjusting to new communication methods. Barriers in communication due to dementia can make caring for your loved one with Alzheimer’s difficult. You may feel like you’re doing more harm than good. MorningStar’s Assisted Living and Memory Care Arvada Co offers a key communication strategy for dementia to help maintain your relationship with your loved one while seeking memory care near you.

Alzheimer’s is a disease that progresses differently for each person diagnosed. Since dementia and Alzheimer’s present differently in every person, this means communication methods will vary. Alzheimer’s can also be a progressive disease that can become more disintegrating as time goes on which worsens symptoms and behaviors. These changes tend to lead to a lot of stress and frustration for your loved one, and for you as well.

Ask your parents with Alzheimer’s or dementia in memory care to show you how to do things. This can be any simple task. If you are being met with frustration about taking medication, bathing, or eating, simply ask the individual to show you how to do it. The key is pretending like you need help or that you’ve forgotten how to complete the task for yourself.

Seniors, especially those struggling with dementia in memory care, continue to seek out independence and autonomy. While they may not be able to complete all the tasks they once could on their own, they still want to feel helpful. At MorningStar, you will find the most modern memory care Arvada Co has to offer for seniors needing memory care.

Contact us to learn more about MorningStar’s Alzheimer’s Care and Assisted Living options in Arvada CO. Our staff is happy to answer any questions you have. Our website also provides information on our company’s history and vision, as well as what sets us apart from other senior living facilities in Colorado.

The Emotional Side of Moving Your Parent to Assisted Living

September 06, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

Many adult children feel as if they let their parents down by moving them into an assisted living community. Mom or dad may have even asked years ago that you never put them into a “home,” and at the time, you made the promise; and/or you know families whose adult children have opened their home to their parents. You keep thinking your parents spent years caring for you, and now when they need help, you turn to strangers to provide the care they need.

Experts explain feelings of guilt are normal and moving a loved one to an assisted living community is probably one of the hardest decisions you will have to make as an adult. However, they quickly add it is important to remember they were not getting the assistance they needed at home. For their safety and wellbeing, they need to move to a place where they will receive the proper care.

Rather than waste time thinking you have let them down, think of it as giving them a better quality of life where they can safely age in place. Experts say stop comparing yourself to others who may have made different decisions; and most of all to remember “people who don’t help and don’t understand the situation aren’t qualified to make judgments or accusations.” Also, remember your loved one is getting older and chances are their health is not going to improve in the long-run regardless of where they are living. By getting the care they need, assisted living can offer a senior the feeling of independence.

For outstanding assisted living in Peoria, AZ, we encourage families to consider MorningStar at Golden Ridge, a true destination for successful aging.  We provide all the amenities, wellness programs, and care services residents need for their comfort and wellbeing.  Our beautiful community offers stylish Casitas and suites for independent and assisted living in a range of floor plans to accommodate residents’ preferences and needs.   In addition, suites in our Reflections Neighborhood are devoted to the care of those with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. Hearing Loss May Contribute to Cognitive Decline

September 01, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

According to the Medical News Today website, studies find hearing loss may contribute to social isolation, lower quality of life, disability, depression, and dementia. This can be especially problematic for people aged 80 years and older, who tend to have more advanced hearing losses.

In 2015, researchers reported on a 25-year study, which focused on a link between hearing loss and dementia. At the start of the study, the 3,670 participants were 65 years or older and followed for over 25 years. Using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) to measure cognitive decline, researchers say there appeared to be a correlation between self-reported hearing loss and cognitive decline. However, participants who used hearing aids did not show a significant cognitive decline, suggesting the use of hearing aids may offer a protective effect.

Experts say hearing loss may adversely impact a person’s ability to socialize as they miss out on vital verbal and emotional information that may directly impair brain structure and function. Or it could be that the person uses more energy to make sense of what they hear; and reduces the energy they have left for memory, language processing and attention.

It is recommended at age 60, all adults get a baseline hearing test and be rechecked every couple of years, regardless of whether they experience symptoms. John Hopkins Medicine reports one in 3 adults over age 65 has hearing loss, but due to a gradual change in their hearing, they may not be aware of it.

Symptoms of age-related hearing loss, or presbycusis, include the speech of others sounding muffled or slurred; high-pitched sounds, such as "s" or "th" being hard to distinguish; and having difficulty understanding conversation, especially if there is background noise. The person may notice men’s voices are easier to hear than women’s, because it is lower-pitched.

Seniors Can Experience This in Pet Therapy

August 25, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

While cuddling with pets makes us comfortable and relaxed, did you know the presence of an animal can have a significant impact on our health? For seniors, pet therapy is not only a heartwarming event, but it actually can improve cardiovascular health and manage chronic conditions.  Whether physical, intellectual, spiritual, or social, our Life Enrichment Teams at MorningStar Senior Living present creative ways for seniors to stay active and productive in memory care communities near you.

The physical benefits of pet therapy in assisted living and memory care are just as valuable as the emotional benefits. The act of spending time around animals like puppies, rabbits, ducklings, and kittens, can significantly lower blood pressure in older adults. Not only this, but a therapy animal’s companionship alleviates pain by encouraging our bodies to release endorphins. Endorphins are like our body’s natural painkiller. This is great news for seniors experiencing chronic pain.

For seniors in memory care or assisted living, pet therapy has even more benefits for seniors. Being around therapy animals, or spending time with animals in general, reduces feelings of loneliness and isolation. Seniors who have not had visits from their families tend to feel a level of loneliness. Thankfully, pet therapy sessions can bring these individuals joy and companionship and help them feel more connected to the world around them.

Being in the presence of an animal can also reduce agitation and aggressive behavior. Seriously, when was the last time you were angry petting a puppy? Pet therapy calms seniors struggling with cognitive impairment and provides them with a nonverbal channel for connection. As you consider memory care options for your loved one, we encourage you to explore the potential of pet therapy at MorningStar at Beaverton.

Please contact us today to learn more about our other memory care amenities within our senior living facility. Our staff is happy to answer any questions you have. Our website also provides information on our company’s history, vision, and mission, as well as what sets us apart from other retirement homes Beaverton, Oregon, offers.

MorningStar at Beaverton proudly provides the best-assisted living and memory care with our unique mission statement of “to honor, to serve, to invest.” With a foundation built on honoring God, valuing all seniors, and selecting staff with a felt calling to serve, we create a true home for residents amid a beautiful setting. Downsizing to a Senior Community is the Start of a New Adventure

August 18, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

Instead of feeling sad about moving from a home that perhaps is too large or costly for you to care for, think about moving into a smaller apartment or condo as the start of a new adventure.   However, to do it right, you should be organized.  Experts suggest you only take with you the things that bring joy and find ways to get rid of the rest.  If that piece of advice still finds you with way too much stuff, then take a moment to picture how you want your new life to look.  Is it a sleek, minimalist décor or more like a smaller, compact version of your present home?

Some simple solutions to help you decorate your new apartment include bringing with you or buying multi-purpose furniture.  This could include upholstered storage benches or cubes, nesting coffee tables, extension desks, and sized-down sofa and chairs more suited to a compact footprint.  Attractive baskets and storage carts also help to make a small place feel more organized.

If you want to use some of your current furniture, measure it, and then draw up a floor plan of the new place and lay it all out to see how it will fit.  In addition, since your new place is smaller, it will most likely not have as many closets as your old home so go through your clothing and only take the items you truly enjoy wearing.  Give the rest to charity.  Lastly, consider the amenities at your new place.  For example if they have an onsite fitness center, you probably do not need to bring along your own in-home treadmill or stationary bike.

At MorningStar at Golden Ridge, our beautiful senior community offers stylish Casitas and suites that are ready to move into and just require your furnishings and personal items. Our broad range of services and amenities include wellness programs and activities, restaurant-style dining, swimming pool, fitness center, life enrichment rooms, and more to promote a healthy, engaged lifestyle.  If you are looking for independent or assisted living in Peoria, AZ, we encourage you to contact us or visit our website for more information.

July 17, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

Creating a sense of home for seniors who are transitioning to memory care is essential for their well-being and comfort. At MorningStar, we understand that seniors’ comfort with their living situation is just as important as the care they receive. By incorporating elements of familiarity into our memory care community, we help seniors to feel a deep sense of belonging and comfort in their new assisted living home.

While our contemporary community provides 112 bright and refreshing independent and assisted living suites, they are also smartly designed for safety and relaxation. For those in need of memory care, our Reflections Neighborhood offers all-inclusive care for seniors with dementia and has its own common rooms and enclosed courtyard.

The suites at MorningStar are all unfurnished and we encourage our residents to personalize their living spaces. By offering individualized care plans, the staff at MorningStar works to create predictable daily routines for seniors in assisted living and memory care. Incorporating lifestyles that mimic their previous routines provides a sense of stability for seniors struggling with memory loss and can help them feel more at ease in their environment.

Senior living communities like MorningStar of Arvada are designed around the various needs of older adults and provide senior-friendly activities and companionship with like-minded adults of a similar age. Looking for Assisted Living in the Peoria/Glendale Area?

July 14, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

Once mom or dad has made the decision to move to an assisted living community, you will want it to go as smoothly as possible and this includes helping them choose the right place to meet today’s needs as well as the next 5 to 10 years. In some cases, a move to an assisted living community is precipitated by a worsening medical condition or an injury due to a fall and the time to mentally prepare oneself is short. This is why MorningStar at Golden Ridge has a guide to help families navigate through such a momentous change in a senior’s life.

Googling senior living in the Peoria, AZ area will bring up quite a few hits so experts recommend narrowing down the candidates to 3 or 4 communities that offer assisted living in a location that works for your family.  Reading information on their website and contacting them for pricing information can help narrow down the choices to those you wish to tour.

Touring a community is a real eye-opener and the Internet offers many tips on what to look for during your visit. At MorningStar, our online community assistant allows you to inquire about pricing and availability as well as set up a tour. We recommend setting aside a couple of hours for a tour and getting ready for a lot of details. Take notes and bring any questions you would like to ask. Focus on the overall ambiance, and take a look at our Monthly Expense Comparison and Senior Communities Comparison Chart beforehand to weigh value against cost. We also advise revisiting your top one or two choices, and remember many seniors find a trial stay; we offer them for up to a full month, is a good way to find out if it is the right community.

MorningStar at Golden Ridge offers comfort, security, built-in companionship, and predictable budgeting. Our assisted living suites are available in a selection of floor plans and offer a broad range of amenities and services to meet your every need including a nutritional, delicious dining service. Creating a Safe Environment for a Loved One with Alzheimer’s Disease

July 12, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

Alzheimer’s disease results in symptoms causing impaired judgement, forgetfulness, and agitation, as well as problems with gait and balance increasing the risk for falls. This is why experts say it is important to take the proper steps to keep your spouse or mom or dad safe if they have Alzheimer’s. They explain the goal of caregivers should be a balancing act between providing an environment that offers as much independence as possible, while at the same time, ensuring the person’s safety and wellbeing.

Recommendations include removing knobs from the stove, and if the person can handle it, install automatic shut-off valves with timer and motion sensors. At a certain stage of the disease, it is not safe for the person to be cooking, and if needed, investigate food delivery services. Additionally, lower the temperature of the water coming from the taps to avoid the person getting scalded from hot water. As confusion is part of Alzheimer’s, experts say store dangerous chemicals and cleaning supplies in a locked area.

To reduce the risk of falls, install grab bars in the bathroom and put non-skid mats in the tub or shower. Stairways should be well-lit and uncluttered as well as hallways and pathways from room to room. Doctors who work with Alzheimer’s patients caution it is important to remember it is a progressive disease, and there may be a time when more restrictive protocols are necessary such as closing off a staircase altogether.

Along with independent and assisted living, MorningStar at Golden Ridge offers 35 memory care suites for residents suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The Reflections Neighborhood is designed with the needs of our special residents in mind and includes an enclosed courtyard, suites equipped with emergency call systems, and handicap-accessible bathrooms. Assisted Living at MorningStar’s Community in Peoria, AZ

July 07, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

Families often wonder how assisted living communities such as MorningStar at Golden Ridge determine the level of care for residents. We want to reassure you there is no need to worry mom or dad’s needs will not be addressed as our job includes creating and routinely re-evaluating residents’ individualized care plan designed for their wellbeing and safety.

Once you and your family decide MorningStar is the best fit, we invite you to meet with our Wellness Director to come up with a specialized care plan based on five levels of care – basic through level 4. Additionally, monthly fees are determined by the square footage and location of your suite within the building along with the view. We have a choice of studio, one-bedroom or two-bedroom floorplans.

Our care services take into account the cost and time of providing each service such as assistance with dressing and bathing. The result is a highly Individualized Service Plan that offers the right amount of assistance when you need it. Medication management is included in Level 1. Other various auxiliary services, both medical and non-medical, are priced a la carte.

We believe wellness of mind, body and spirit is a joint effort between our remarkable residents and team members. Between clinical services and our life enrichment programs and activities, we work hard to be a breath of fresh air; and look for creative solutions that offer a higher quality of care at a lower cost to families. Working within the scope of our licensing with the Department of Health, we try to find creative solutions to extend the stay of our residents even as health conditions change.

Along with assisted living, we offer Casitas for independent living featuring high end finishes and an attached garage. In addition, our Reflections Neighborhood provides memory care to those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.  Please contact us or visit our website to learn more about the finest senior living in Peoria, AZ.

These Everyday Activities Promote Brain Health in Seniors Dealing with Memory Loss

June 19, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

Some of the first signs of Alzheimer's or other memory loss diseases is often the struggle to complete everyday tasks or activities one once enjoyed. You may notice that your parent or loved one needs help to remember how to do things they used to do regularly or were skilled in. While they may struggle, this does not mean that they have lost interest or ability to do their activities, but that they may require extra support to complete these tasks while adjusting to memory loss. At MorningStar Senior Living, our community can mentally, physically, and emotionally support your loved one.

Choosing an assisted living facility specializing in memory care is the best decision to ensure your loved one continues their usual enriching activities in a safe environment. While many senior living facilities differ, MorningStar at Beaverton offers memory care that recognizes the importance of encouraging our residents to participate in everyday activities.

While there is an array of amenities and activities that MorningStar offers, a popular one that actively promotes brain health in our residents dealing with memory loss includes the attraction of our grand piano. Music can profoundly impact individuals with memory loss, according to the Alzheimer's disease research center. The piano is open to our residents, and we encourage them to practice or show off their skills. However, if your loved one can no longer fully participate in playing piano, listening to another play still encourages brain health and can promote more memory recollection.

We like to have a hands-on approach to our residents' specialized memory care needs dealing with memory loss. Our holistic approach to senior living means it is not uncommon to see residents working in the kitchen, helping employees with clerical work, or tending to one of our gardens. Participating in everyday activities promotes recognition and enrichment.

Please contact us today to learn more about our other memory care amenities within our senior living facility. Our staff is happy to answer any questions you have. Our website also provides information on our company's history, vision, and mission, as well as what sets us apart from other retirement homes Beaverton, Oregon, offers.

Reduce the Risk of Cognitive Decline With the MIND Diet

June 19, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

Researchers have found evidence suggesting genetics, environment, and lifestyle can affect our risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. A poor diet is one of those lifestyle choices that causes high blood pressure and heart disease, and increases a person’s risk for Alzheimer’s disease.

WebMD.com reports the MIND diet; a combination of the Mediterranean and DASH diets has shown promise in reducing the risk or slowing cognitive decline. They cite early studies showing MIND lowered the “risk of Alzheimer's by 53% in those who follow it closely and by 35% in those who follow more loosely.” In 2018, the MIND diet recommendation was expanded to include older adults who have suffered a stroke.

To adhere to the diet, weekly meals should include food from the following groups: green leafy vegetables, other vegetables, nuts, berries, beans, whole grains, fish, poultry, olive oil, and wine. They say a good way to start is with a daily salad, one other vegetable, and three servings of whole grains every day. In terms of vegetables, collard greens, kale, and spinach have been found to be especially healthy.

Poultry should be eaten once a week, fish twice a week and beans every other day. Nuts and berries make good snacks, blueberries and strawberries being some of the best. Olive oil not only adds a great taste to foods but has been shown to improve brain function over the long term and protect against dementia.

At MorningStar at Golden Ridge, we offer a healthy engaged lifestyle with luxury amenities, care services, wellness programs and activities. In addition, our five-star dining experience features seasonal menus with the freshest ingredients from high quality producers, locally sourced whenever possible.

Meals at MorningStar include a variety of nutritional choices to allow residents to self-manage dietary habits and restrictions and include low sodium, gluten free, sugar free, no sugar added and low-fat options.  Our chef also uses ingredients with high concentrations of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds known to support brain health and aptly named “Super Foods.”  These include items like acai berries, Omega 3 fats, dark chocolate and dark greens.  Please contact us or visit our website for more information about exceptional independent living, assisted living and memory care in Peoria, Arizona.

How to Improve Communication with Your Doctor

June 12, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

Although it is first-hand, it is not always easy to describe to a doctor what is going on regarding medical problems. Describing various symptoms is quite all-together different from getting the results of actual lab tests or a doctor’s opinion after a physical exam.

Relating symptoms clearly can help narrow down the problem, and medical experts share some advice on how to best do it. They start by telling patients to skip the medical jargon and just use their own words to describe what they are feeling.

Dr. Lisa Ravindra, an assistant professor in the department of internal medicine and a primary care physician at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, says, "Avoid using vague terms for timing like 'for a while' or stating that a symptom occurs 'once in a while' since these mean different things to different people." She explains it is helpful to be as precise as possible when talking about symptoms including the amount of time you have had them for such as three days, or on and off for a week. Doctors say it is helpful to rate your pain from one to ten.

Other helpful things you can do include using a blood pressure monitor to chart your blood pressure, and if you feel feverish, take your temperature. Keep track of other important symptoms such as sore throat, earache, coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. Be sure to mention unexpected weight loss, fatigue when doing things you typically do, or specific type and location of pain, i.e. a constant, sharp pain in the front of the right knee. If you have a chronic condition, doctors say it helps to keep a journal of symptoms to discuss with your doctor during your next visit.

The Move to MorningStar at Golden Ridge

May 12, 2023 by Karla A in Assisted Living

If you are looking for exceptional assisted living, MorningStar at Golden Ridge in Peoria, AZ may be your answer. Along with beautiful surroundings, we provide an extensive range of amenities, wellness programs, care services and more.

When a loved one needs more care than they can get in their own home, it may be time to start thinking about a move to assisted living. If your family is new to the concept of senior living and all it means, please know that MorningStar will work with you each step of the way to help you make informed decisions, and make the eventual move-in process easier.

To start with, we understand that for your parent or elderly relative, the move is a major lifestyle transition, which is why we approach each move-in with great sensitivity. One way we do this is to try and nurture a relationship from the start that reinforces the positive aspects of community life and tries to help the person envision the many possibilities of a new adventure.

Once your family puts down a deposit to secure a chosen suite, our “House to Home” plan goes into full swing. This starts by collecting pertinent information, agreements and permissions inherent to the move-in including a medical assessment and physician’s care plan for each new assisted living and memory care resident.

On a more practical level, we offer packing tips including what items are most important to bring such as furnishings and personal belongings that are most significant emotionally, nostalgically as well as functionally. We want the resident’s new “home” to bring them comfort and joy, which is why we suggest, if possible, furnishings should be arranged similar to their prior residence. Keep in mind; it is especially helpful to those with low vision or cognitive impairment.

This is just a start of the on-going support we extend to new residents and their families. We are ready to answer any questions you may have and direct you to our website for contact information as well as other pertinent details. MorningStar at Golden Ridge’s entire team is engaged in finding ways to build a true family, one loving relationship at a time.

MorningStar at Golden Ridge’s mission statement of “to honor, to value, to invest” sets us apart from other senior living communities. We have built a foundation on honoring God, valuing our seniors and selecting staff with a felt calling to serve. Set in a warm, loving atmosphere with beautiful surroundings and resort-style amenities, we provide outstanding independent living,
assisted living and memory care.
